Meet Steve Murphy - Business Development Manager USA/Canada

Steve MurphyA Kumuka addict, we just can't get rid of Steve!

After many years already in the travel industry, Steve started with Kumuka Worldwide as a consultant in the Sydney office, then left for the exotic climes of Central America where he worked for Kumuka as a tour leader. Love then got the better of Steve so he moved to the USA and married his beau. He can now be found talking his way around North America about the 50+ countries he has visited, in his role as BDM for Kumuka Worldwide.

In Steve’s words.

If I had one free flight and tour to anywhere in the world I’d go to: Russia and travel on the Trans Siberian Railway followed by Antarctica and East Africa. This flight is around the world, right?

The thing I like most about adventure travel is: It allows you to feel like you are a part of where you are and where you are travelling to.

If I was holding a travel theme dinner party... I wouldn't cook, I'd get the guys from the Colonial Club in Huanchaco, Peru to come and cook, best food this side of the Andes

My favourite foreign drink is: Cerveza, of course!

Meet Sarah Baxter - South Island Business Development Manager, New Zealand

Sarah BaxterNew Zealand born Sarah joined the Kumuka team in London in 2003 after travelling extensively through Europe. 18 months later, Sarah returned to New Zealand via Africa and Egypt to take up the position of Business Development Manager in the South Island. After a trip to Asia, Sarah moved to Australia and has now taken on the role PA to the Managing Director, based in our Sydney office.

When talking about quirky habits, Sarah admits: I sleep talk, which always amuses my roomies whilst travelling. I seem to mutter about things that I wouldn't usually say and tell my secrets!

If Sarah could go back to a destination she’s already travelled to it would be: Egypt, because the sights continue to amaze you more each day and the local people go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your experience.

Working for Kumuka is a blast because: I have the opportunity to learn about many different exciting destinations and it's extremely satisfying knowing that, as a result of what we do, we are sending clients away on trips that may change their lives.

On her travels Sarah has learnt a lot of fun foreign words, her favourite phrase is: “Lala Salaama”, meaning 'sleep peacefully' in Swahili. (note, if you are sharing a room with Sarah it is best to stay awake, you never know what you may learn!)

The most exciting thing Sarah has done whilst on her travels was: Hot Air Ballooning over the Serengeti. Seeing the plains and the animals from such a unique point of view was breath taking and the 5* champagne breakfast in the bush following was not only delectable but an incredible experience.

Sarah’s best travel tips to give potential travellers are: Baby wipes are your best travel companion and sarongs double as towels.
