John James says:
Organised the 6 Day Machame Kilimanjaro Trek with Kumuka for a solo traveller. Superb handling by the staff at Kumuka from the out set, especially when my insurance provider refused to insure me 4 days before departure! Excellent and seamless transition from Nairobi to the hotel in Moshi. Fantastic first briefing by my own personal guide with regards to all aspects of the trek ahead. Whilst on the trek, camping and food were superb... all catered by my own cook and waiter :-) Summited Uhuru Peak with my Awseome guide Gilbert at 0650 to see the most spectacular sun rise! Once again, a seamless transition from Moshi, back across the border in to Kenya for the flight home. To sum up, Kumuka have not only organised a superb trek up Kili, but managed to cover every aspect of travel, accommodation and great food and service into the equation too! In the future I won't hesitate to use Kumuka again! My only word of warning about Kili is the Altitude... it affects everyone of any ability or fitness without remorse! Whilst a small amount of acclimatization is built into a couple of routes up Kili, an acclimatization trek about 5-7 days before your Kili trek will make things easier on your body leading to a more enjoyable walk up the mountain. Something like climbing Mt. Kenya or Mt. Meru just to the west of Kili are excellent walks. Enjoy, John
Introduction: Test your fitness against the highest peak in Africa. Trek the Machame Route, generally accepted as being the most challenging and scenic route to the summit. Set off through the rainforest of the lower slopes and then to Barafu, circumnavigating Kibo's southern face and offering gorgeous views of the mountain and surroundings. We work with a local operator who works towards better conditions for the porters and guides, as well as conservation of the area.
