AST2

Barry Baldwin says:
I have recently completed the AST2 tour of Thailand, and had a great time. Our local Tour Leader Somsak (Max) was very helpful and made everything fun. The local Guides in the Hills were also fantastic and we all had a great time, and this was my highlight of the trip. We were away over Christmas and New Year, but the Thais all made us very welcome and celebrated Christmas with us. The beach at Krabi was a nice relaxing way to finish the trip. I'm looking at going from Chiang Mia north through Laos next. Barry
Introduction: This trip has it all. It combines exciting contrasts covering the length of Thailand, from trekking in the hills and the cultural heritage of the rugged north, to trips through rainforests and snorkelling in the tropical south. This comprehensive tour begins in the capital Bangkok, where we visit the famous Reclining Buddha and Grand Palace, before heading to Kanchanaburi and the Bridge over The River Kwai, an immense engineering feat, at great human cost of the Second World War. Next, we're off by overnight sleeper train to Chiang Mai, where over three days we trek by foot and on elephant back, staying overnight in traditional Thai minority family homes. Walk through the jungle to visit small villages, meet hill tribes for a taste of their culture, and try rafting on bamboo rafts. An overnight sleeper train takes us south to our bungalows in the Khao Sok National Park. Here we trek on foot and on elephant through this tropical rain forest as well as taking a river canoe ride. Then on to Krabi or Koh Samui with their sparkling waters and white sandy beaches. Cruising on the emerald waters, diving, snorkelling and rock climbing are some of the options on offer here.
